This Moment
This is a happy accident. I was playing with blending modes for this picture that I took on yesterday's hike. Phone cameras are handy, although there's not much control over exposure. Still, I have a little stash of iPhone pics to use for artwork. I started by adjusting the levels: RGB, then red, then blue. I increased the saturation, so I had some good autumnal colors to work with. Then I put an overlay on top (DigiDesignResort, SD Muslin 8) and tried my usual blending modes: overlay, multiply, and soft light. Not happy with those, I turned to the ones I don't fully understand: difference and exclusion. Difference was good, but EXCLUSION was magical. Suddenly the photo was an old tapestry from a castle in Europe. It was a glimpse of some other world. It was just MORE.
I then cropped it to fit as my Facebook cover and added a quote from C.S. Lewis: "This moment contains all moments..." from The Great Divorce. (Great little book, by the way.) I love it when art happens as I play.

Impermanence
On the north side of the Roswell Riverwalk, there is a house in neglect. For several years I have watched as it fell into further disrepair. I wondered about the original builder: What were his dreams? Who was he? What did he see as he looked out those windows over the Chattahoochee River? Did he raise a family there? Did he hope that home would be a haven for generations?
In the last few months, parts of the house have begun to fall. Music murals and interior fixtures are visible from the road. It is sad to see what was once a beautiful home in a lovely location die a slow death.
And then I remember, I too am nothing more than a breath on this planet. My days, good and bad, do not register on any cosmic scale. My life, when all is said and done, will eventually be like this house: lingering memories for a time, and then, one day, gone.
How grateful I am for a Heavenly Father who knows the numbers of hairs on my head and loves me, in spite of my insignificance. He knows my joys and sorrows, my hopes and dreams, my motives and my heart. In Him I do have permanent value. There is no false gilt, but rather the Master shining through me, pure as gold and beautiful.

Marvelous Incarnation
One of my groups is doing a challenge inspired by the work of artists Angi Sullins and Silas Toball. I fell for their colorful creations and whimsical approach to life and art. Life should be magical, because it is marvelous!
The gallery at my church has an open call for art with the theme of Advent, so I put the two together to create this piece.
The original background photo is a tree in autumn. I used an overlay from Kim Klassen with the Luminosity blending mode at 92%. The text background is Luke 2:1-20, while the primary text is from Psalm 118. I created it using a text path and a couple of different gradients plus strokes to get the effect I wanted. The baby is Corinne right after she was born. The rest is a series of brushes and an overlay from Digital Scrapbook Place. I finished with a simple frame made with a selection layer and the paint bucket tool.
Fun stuff!

Another Autumn Day
I love living in Georgia. Autumn colors may not be as vibrant as in the North, but walking in 60 degree weather through crunching leaves is pretty amazing...

Autumn2
It was a beautiful day for a drive in the North Georgia Mountains. Brian and I enjoyed barbecue, bought apples, and made a VERY quick tour of a flea market...Mostly we just enjoyed being together without an agenda. Those are the details that make life beautiful.
